In times of danger or disaster, fear tries to seize us. It’s fear that gives Satan power in our lives. Notice Hebrews 2:15: “…through death he [Jesus]
might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage”
(KJV). Fear opens us to bondage, even though Jesus broke the power of death over our lives.
It’s critical to build our faith and confidence in God’s ability to protect and deliver us before we are faced with a life-threatening situation.
Then whenever we are confronted with danger, we will be fully equipped to fight the good fight of faith and win!
Our responsibility is to become fearless. Even though our minds might be racing, our knees might be knocking, and our hearts might be pounding, we must
never let the devil see us sweat!
The Apostle Paul knew that maintaining a poker face while under attack confuses the enemy. Philippians 1:28 says, “And do not [for a moment] be frightened
or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of
[their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God” (AMP).
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego showed this kind of fearlessness at King Nebuchadnezzar’s rage after they refused to worship the statue he built. They
answered the king, saying, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power,
Your Majesty” (Daniel 3:17 NLT).
Nebuchadnezzar became so irate that he ordered the furnace to be made seven times hotter than usual. This fire was so hot that it killed the men who had
to come near it but the fire didn’t harm God’s men! Their hair wasn’t singed; their clothing wasn’t scorched; and they didn’t even smell like smoke!
Whatever the danger, we can have the assurance that we are safe, because God has promised: “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your
right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness
the reward of the wicked” (Psalm 91:7,8 AMP). As long as we refuse to give place to fear, death cannot get a grip on us.
Notice what God promises us:
“For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone. You will
trample down lions and poisonous snakes; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them.
I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my salvation'” (vv.11-16 NLT).
Make a fresh commitment to dwell in the secret place of the Most High God and abide under His shadow. Then start saying what the Lord says, and refuse to give in to fear!
