Prosperity and Success

The results of meditating day and night are wonderful! Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make thy way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Notice God said, “You will make your way prosperous.” God is not going to make our way prosperous. We make our way prosperous. No one else can practice the Word for us — not our spouse, not our pastor, not even God. But once we begin practicing God’s Word daily, we will begin to prosper.

God has already released His power in order for us to live a life of prosperity and success. His success is available to us now.

This verse in Joshua is the only place in the King James Version of the Bible that records the word success. Here God is linking our success together with our commitment to meditate in His Word. If we will make a firm commitment to meditate daily in His Word and become a doer of the Word, our success is inevitable.

First Timothy 4:15 also links meditation and success: “Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.” Notice we cannot give ourselves to God’s Words halfheartedly, we must give ourselves entirely to them. That means committing ourselves to a daily time with the Lord.

As the Word of God takes preeminence in our lives, we will profit. We will increase. We will become more productive.

God wants the world to see what He has done in us. He wants our success and stability to appear to all those with whom we come into contact. We will become a living example of the true nature of God. The Apostle Paul said, “…God can always point to us as examples of how very, very rich his kindness is, as shown in all he has done for us through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 2:7 NLT).

He is a loving God and a giving Father. Just as Jesus was “the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature,” we are to be like Him also radiating the goodness of God through our lives so all can see. (Hebrews 1:3, NAS).

Some Christians have experienced the most frustrating time of their lives by earnestly desiring the results the Word will produce, but neglecting to do what the Word instructs in order to receive them.

Hearing that we have rights as a believer, or that we are blessed and prosperous are exciting messages. However, without meditating in the Word of God — observing to do all that is written in it — we will never enjoy the privileges that are rightfully ours. No one receives the results of faith without the commitment to live by faith. According to Hebrews 11:6, only committed, diligent, faith-filled believers receive rewards.

When we give ourselves wholly to meditation in God’s Word, become totally engrossed in His commandments, and commit ourselves to them, God becomes the guarantee of our profit! He wants to get actively involved with our lives. When we wholly commit to God, He wholly commits to us.
